What came first... the chicken or the egg? Here, the age old question may be humorous in its delivery yet inquiring a greater dilemma: The fundamental desire of the human need to understand the nature of how life came to be. In this Visual Lexicon, I begin my first entry with the egg, a symbol which I have used in my own art work and which has been contemplated by many artists since antiquity. Found within the hieroglyphics of the Egyptians, referenced by the Alchemist engravings as "The Philosophers Egg" and depicted by William Blake as the Cosmic Egg. The egg has appeared as a creation symbol in mythological cosmologies throughout the world.
